Hello!
If you are here you are likely looking to travel and need some advice and input about what you should do. Sounds just like me, constantly looking for the best things to do and sights to see while I’m away. Unfortunately, I found it hard to find trip plans for someone who is looking to travel and not so much to go on vacation. I was not interested in going to an all inclusive
resort every time I left home and I wanted a way to find more authentic experiences in other countries and truly learn new things or explore new cultures. With that being said I also wasn’t looking to backpack around the world with only the necessities in my bag. I wanted a good combination of comfort and exploration. After traveling for a few months on my first major trip, I decided to document my journey to show others how I managed to enjoy my time on the road.
So a little bit more about me and how I took the route. In June of this year I turned 29. I am single, have no children and enjoy spending much of my time alone. When spending time at home, I love to cook and enjoy learning new forms of cuisine. I also love my plants, with over 30 house plants in my tiny apartment and herbs growing on my balcony every summer. I have a real love of plants and nature, spending much of my summers outdoors hiking, camping, boating and getting to the beach whenever I can… which isn’t often as I live in the prairies of Canada. I also play hockey and soccer year round to stay active and enjoy running and going to the gym when I can.
I have been working entirely remotely since 2022 and have always just worked from home. I decided to reach out to my boss
to see if working abroad was an option and luckily I was told I can work from essentially anywhere in the world. Once I heard that, I knew I had to get away.
Within a short period of time, I had booked a 4 month trip island hopping through the Caribbean and was ready to go. But… I was terrified. I had so many concerns about things that may go wrong. What if the Wifi is bad and I cannot work? What if my bags are lost and I have no clothes? How do I get to and from the airport? As I had always traveled to large resorts, I wasn’t really confident in my ability to navigate foreign countries without a planned shuttle or excursion organized for me.
At the time of writing this page, I am now 2 months into my first trip and I have not had 1 major issue that has derailed my plans… it’s not as hard as I thought. The only issue I’m facing is constantly changing my mind about where to go next, and not wanting to go home at the end of this trip. I keep booking another flight with another hostel on a new island and this trip will soon become something more than I had ever expected it to be. I’ve also started planning my next trip, and this one isn’t even finished yet.. I have so many places to go and people to see before I can go home and be complacent working from the comforts of my home again.
You may notice that I try to focus my trips or outdoor activities including swimming, diving, hiking, exploring caves
, and touring National parks. I enjoy finding unique landscapes to photograph and enjoy. I love exploring the cities as well but my true joy comes from exploring nature. I do my best to stray from the tourist traps and excursions, but it is often hard to avoid these as many locations have a large tourist culture and require you to be with a tour or a guide in order to access certain areas. When possible, I will rent a car, pay the entrance fee and go on my own so I can go on my own schedule, take my time and enjoy locations without the crowds.
If there is anything else you would like to know about me, please reach out as I am more than happy to share more information. Follow along as I see the world and hopefully give some good advice on how you can see it too.
